A Day of Discovery
Your child’s natural curiosity is the heart of our academic approach. In our kindergarten classrooms, literacy blossoms through phonics, storytelling, and writing activities using Rigby’s Literacy by Design. Math lessons are hands-on and interactive, encouraging students to think creatively and solve problems collaboratively. Science becomes a thrilling exploration of life, earth, and physical concepts through engaging experiments. In social studies, students discover their role in family, school, and community, building a sense of identity and belonging.
Creative Expression, Cultural Enrichment
Kindergarteners at Newport express themselves through music, art, drama, and twice-weekly Mandarin classes. These experiences introduce sounds and cultural stories while providing outlets for self-expression and collaboration. Drama helps students to find their voice through storytelling.
Everyday SEL
Emotional intelligence is nurtured every day through our implementation of the Second Step program. Your child learns to name their feelings, understand others, manage impulses, and solve problems peacefully. Whether it’s learning to take turns on the playground or resolving a disagreement, each moment becomes a chance to grow socially and emotionally—with support from trusted teachers.
Active Student Body
Movement and play are essential parts of each day. Physical education builds coordination and teaches the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. During recess, students run, jump, climb, and laugh together—gaining physical strength, confidence, and friendships.
Individualized Support for Every Kindergartener
With low teacher-to-student ratios, our educators are able to tailor instruction to each child’s unique learning style and pace. Advanced learners are challenged with enriched content, while those who need more support are met with patient, personalized teaching. Every student receives the attention they need to grow.
Connecting with Community
Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. We bring Bellevue into our curriculum through visits to places like the Bellevue Botanical Garden, partnerships with local cultural organizations, and community celebrations that reflect our families' diverse backgrounds. These experiences build connection and a sense of place.
Looking Ahead
By the end of kindergarten, your child will be reading with understanding, solving real-world math problems, showing empathy to peers, and confidently stepping into first grade. More than that, they’ll have built habits of curiosity, collaboration, and joyful learning that last a lifetime.

Kindergarten Program FAQs
How do you support the transition from preschool to kindergarten?
We ease transitions with familiar routines, consistent teacher support, and classroom structures that mirror preschool environments while building independence and responsibility.
What makes Newport’s Kindergarten different from public options?
Our full-day program includes art, Mandarin, computer science, and emotional learning—combined with small class sizes and individual attention that are rarely matched in public settings.
How do you challenge children who are ready for more advanced material?
Our flexible curriculum allows us to meet students at their level. Advanced learners receive enrichment through deeper questions, independent projects, and small-group challenges.
